Love’s Embrace – A Cocktail For Wine Lovers

People always complain about the hypocrisy of Valentine’s Day. They say, you should shower the one you love with gifts and affection everyday, not just on February 14th. I agree! Mixologist Wendy Hodges and I teamed up to help you do just that. Love’s Embrace is the ultimate WINEtail to prove your love, daily.

For those of you who don’t know what a WINEtail is, just imagine a cocktail that is largely based on wine. Since cocktails are all the rave at the moment and the creativeness with which they’re made truly excites me, I decided to combine the two with help from Wendy. She also assisted in creating the signature WINEtail for my wedding that was a complete hit with both cocktail and wine lovers! Love’s Embrace marks the start of a new love for the two of us, WINEtails! Here are her thoughts and the recipe:

Love’s Embrace

  • 5-6 fresh raspberries
  • 1 oz Navan Vanilla liqueur
  • 1/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Demi-sec sparkling rose

Directions: Muddle raspberries with sugar cube and lemon. Add liqueur and ice. Shake and double strain into serving glass of your choice. Top with sparkling rosé.

Note: If you are unable to get Navan because they discontinued the production of it, you can always substitute Tuaca which is a vanilla/citrus Italian liqueur.

The vibrant hot pink color of this cocktail is perfect for Valentine’s Day or just showcasing your love. Float a rose petal, candy hearts, or just serve without a garnish. This sweet and tart cocktail is sure to please.

I chose Navan because it is a cognac based liqueur. Being this is a “winetail” and it was created for a wine blog, I really wanted to use spirits that would compliment the wine best. Hence grape based spirits.
