Pineapple Upside Down Cake With WINE

Pineapple Upside Down Cake With WINE

Things have been kind of UPSIDE down lately. The mixture of constant rain, heat and humidity in Las Vegas feels like something out of south Florida, minus the hot Cubans and Puerto Ricans! And aside from sweating my ass off, I haven't been feeling like my creative, wine blogging self. However, after admittedly downing more than a few bottles of wine, plus a bottle of vodka (I know), some pretty amazing events transpired last week. Suddenly, I feel like my feet just might land on solid ground again… Stay tuned!

P.S.  I can't think of anything more refreshing and delicious than pineapple on a hot, sticky day. Additionally, anything that can make me forget I live in the desert instead of next to palm tree lined beaches is good in my book. Put pineapple in a dessert and add a little vino and I'm one happy wino! Viognier, although hard to say and slowly gaining in popularity, is an excellent choice for sipping alongside pineapple upside down cake. Both the dessert and wine are syrupy rich in texture and full of exotic flavors and baking spice. After a bite of the cake and then a sip of the wine, you'll love how the brown sugar, caramel and honey come to life. Plus, the particular wine featured in this photo (see below) has 25% Sauvignon Blanc added, giving it a refreshing amount of acidity to help cleanse the palate in between bites. The pairing reminds me of laying out at the beach while sipping a piña colada and being fanned by a sexy island boy. Ok, maybe not, but a girl can dream, right?  Enjoy!

Wine featured in this post: 2010 Happy CanyonVogelzang Viognier (like a tomboy in a dress, this wine shows off its attractive feminine side by showcasing hints of jasmine, citrus blossom, honey and stone fruit, all while portraying a bit of rugged masculinity characterized by wet earth and a full-body. She def knows how to make friends with both the typically female white and conversely, typically male red wine drinkers;))
